Shackle padlock with key

Germany(?), ca. 1600

Malleable wrought iron. The robust padlock housing has an arched shackle which is riveted to one side of the body of the lock and is used for hanging and for locking. What appears to be the producer’s trademark and the letter “S” are embossed on the shackle. The key has a hollow square shank and banded collar; the bow is composed of circular rings.
